Amicalola Falls and Chestatee River June 2010

We went camping in the North Georgia Mountains so we could hike another of our canyons for the Canyon Climber's Club. We managed to get a three day weekend, Wed-Fri and then drove home on Sat. morning. Pulling a 31' trailer through Atlanta during Friday rush hour is no fun. Saturday morning was much better.

We walked the wrong trail up to the top of the falls. At this point I really didn't think I was going to make it to the top. My lungs were still squeaking and I couldn't catch my breath. Little did I know that the top of the falls was just a few steps away.
Pneumonia is no fun!

Finally, at the top. I have completed another canyon climb! By the way, this is the only canyon that you have to climb up but not down. We could have had someone drive to the top to pick us up (but we didn't).

While in the mountains we decided to visit Appalachian Outfitters for a kayak shuttle. We've paddled the Chestatee River many times but now they offer a section that leads into the river. Yahoola Creek is supposed to be an easy, calm prelude to the light whitewater of the Chestatee. We found the Yahoola to be much more difficult! Trees were down across the river and required us to cut back and forth across the river.

Now to the Chestatee. Stop taking pictures and PADDLE!
