I did forget that we went to Mexico. I usually "Gotta Go Where It's Warm" by January! This, I think, was our third winter trip to Mexico. We stayed at a very nice resort but it was way too big. The Grand Bahia Principe is one of three resorts clustered together in one complex. 
This is part of the shopping area at the front of the resort. All resorts used the common shops.

We had towel creatures each day. We also had fresh flowers in our room.
We did go snorkeling one day in Akumal. There were plenty of turtles. If you should go to the Riviera Maya, be sure to use the Colectivo. It is the least expensive way to get up and down the coast. They can be crowded so I wouldn't use them to get to your resort.
We found a really nice bar along the beach in Akumal. It usually occurs to us after we order that we shouldn't be eating food in Mexico from just any place. It was very good though and we did not get sick!
The water was beautiful in Tulum.
The lizards were very big.
And the ruins.....impressive.
