Callaway Gardens April 2010

In April each year, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra plays at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA. We usually make a weekend of it and camp at FDR State Park. This year the park was full on the concert night so we had to camp at Pine Mountain RV Resort. We didn't have any pictures of the campground so I guess we weren't too impressed! The resort is in transition and has a new camping section. The pool was very clean but also very cold. We stayed in the older sites, used the older bathrooms, and could not get satellite reception.

From Pine Mountain we took a day trip to West Point Lake. We went to the northern end at Yellowjacket Creek. We found several eagle nests. We saw several pairs of eagles tending most of the nests. We couldn't see any "little heads" in the nests but suspected that the parents were feeding eaglets.

We paddled our kayaks all the way up until the lake was no longer a lake....and then a little farther.

Many people attend the ASO concert and pay a couple of hundred dollars for a table during the concert.

We're too cheap! We pay our entrance fee, spread a blanket, and sit on the lawn. This year it didn't rain. We picked up Greek salads from a restaurant in Pine Mountain, carried our own wine and cheese with crackers and had a wonderful dinner.
