Biloxi/Houston/New Orleans March 2010

The big hassle with Thur/Fri days off is that a Saturday wedding in Houston requires an entire week of leave. We decided to take our time and tour on the drive there and back. Our first stop was Biloxi. While Sam was winning enough at the casino to pay for our room and food, I decided to walk this bridge to Ocean Springs. Katrina brought about several good changes from the days we lived in Biloxi. One was having to rebuild this bridge. A sidewalk was included in the rebuild.

Neil and Lauren Travis' wedding cake. The wedding was at a small Methodist church near Houston. The reception followed at Lauren's parent's house. It was so nice to attend a simple and small wedding! It was a prettier wedding than many of the big and fancy ones I have attended.

Next, to New Orleans. It's been over 21 years since we have been there. The French Quarter reminded me of Old San Juan. I don't think we ever wandered this deep into the French Quarter when we brought Jessi and Michael. We left Biloxi when Jessi was three and just before Michael's second birthday.

We stayed at the Chateau Bourbon (Wyndham) while in New Orleans. Our room had french doors to this courtyard. The weather was a little cool so I enjoyed the sunny afternoons here. It was also a relaxing place when we returned in the evenings.

My favorite place at the Audubon Zoo was always the reptile house. It is just the same. Lots of really cool snakes. I still like the lizards the best.

Unfortunately, the elephant enclosure is also the same as it was years ago. I always felt so bad for the elephants. They just have a dusty area to walk in small circles. I look into the eyes of the mammals held in enclosed areas and wish they could be back in the wild. I feel for them, "Pacing the Cage"
